📄 Seeing the world through Spiritual eyes has a dramatic impact on your life, your business, and your relationship with others. The late Truett Cathy was the founder of Chick-fil-A and a man of strong faith who was open to God's calling and direction. Most of his stores were in malls and shopping centers where he introduced the first chicken sandwich in America. Before the 1980's, the company's sales had been growing by an amazing 15% annually.
Yet in the mid-1980's, his business started to go flat. Wendy's, McDonald's, and other hamburger chains decided they would also start selling the chicken sandwich. The American public was learning that high cholesterol levels caused by consuming fatty meats were not healthy. During that time, Truett was very concerned and as a result, decided to take his board and some other key company officers away on a 2-day planning session to develop a strategic plan for the growth and development of the company.
As the board met, they prayed, talked, and planned, but there was only one key issue that they could really come to agreement over. It was their mission statement: "We will honor God in all we are entrusted to serve and do."
From that point on, they placed this statement in front of their corporate headquarters and in the entrances of all their restaurants. In addition, they also honor God by keeping to a company policy to be closed on Sundays. To this day, Truett shares how that meeting was the turning point in the business. After that, 15-25% annual growth began again. They were doing $500 million at that time. They are now over $3 billion, an increase of billions of dollars in less than 10 years without going public.
